I wanted to let some of my friends know that I am currently being heard on WNYC (NPR) on THE FISHKO FILES, in a story about the art of whistling in popular music. It’s a fascinating listen.

As I’ve said at least twice in the New York Sun already, Jack Jones, like Tony Bennett, is one of the last of the great old school pop-jazz singers who are still performing at the top of their game. Tonight is his last night at The Oak Room. I heartily recommend him, especially if you’ve never seen him live. (There is a link to my full review at the bottom of this page.)
This weekend I am inviting a few friends to join me uptown at the annual Charie Parker Festival. As usual, on Saturday it’s uptown (I can walk there) at Marcus Garvey Park, which is a beautiful little park (well worth checking out if you haven’t seen it) and they have a really impressive line-up of bands, mostly saxophonists (the way I like ‘em) :
