With nearly 10% nationwide unemployment it’s hard to distinguish where the downturn ends from where the sluggish recovery begins, but I think most Americans believe the worst is over. We weathered the storm. In spite of supreme mismanagement by this administration, earmarked with bogus bailouts, a failed stimulus package, a healthcare plan most Americans oppose, and a litany of other big-government bonanzas, the American economy has proved its resiliency. But before you think we’re back on our feet, be warned: there’s a tax tsunami on the horizon.
The Father of the Constitution James Madison once said, “Charity is no part of the legislative duty of the government.” Nonetheless, we live in an entitlement age, where the business of providing charity invariably becomes an impetus for bigger, more oppressive government.
Now that we’ve endured over a year of this great social experiment known as “hope” and “change,” suffice to say that Americans are experiencing buyers’ remorse of the highest order. And barring some momentous shift in leadership on behalf of the White House (which is doubtful), the sluggish days of Obamaonomics will ultimately reach a welcome end, November 2, 2012. It’s now up to the Republicans to step forward and select his successor.
In a political ploy to appease pro-life Democrats on March 24, 2010, President Obama signed an executive order banning federal funding for abortion as part of the massive overhaul of America’s healthcare system. The completely worthless, non-binding document was enough to convince Bart Stupak and other Pro-life Democrats (if such anomalies exist), to throw their support behind the President’s healthcare bill and provide the critical votes to pass it on a purely partisan basis. Yesterday, the President reneged on that promise, and the state of Pennsylvania will be the first in the union to receive federal funding for abortions, courtesy of Obamacare.
The latest Gallup numbers are in. Among independents, President Obama holds a 38 percent approval rating. That’s an 18-point difference from a year ago. The results aren’t surprising; high unemployment, bigger government, unpopular healthcare bill, reckless spending . . . the list goes on and on. After failing to solve these problems with their left-wing agenda, the administration has decided on another tack to remedy their dismal poll performance: change the narrative.
Harry S. Truman once said, “Whenever you put a man on the Supreme Court he ceases to be your friend.” Will that rein true with Elena Kagan, the administration’s latest appointee? With all deference to our thirty-third President, I’m not so sure if that’s the case in today’s politics. Considering the intimate ties Ms. Kagan shares with President Obama and the highly partisan nature of this administration, we can safely assume that once appointed, Ms. Kagan will not only remain Obama’s friend…she may be his ideological double.
By now we’ve all heard about President Obama’s fiercely uninspiring speech regarding the BP spill. There he was, in his first ever Oval Office address: stern . . . fastidious . . . reassuring the American people that his administration has done everything in its power to clean up after this historic environmental calamity. Quite the contrast to the Commander-in-Chief of just a few weeks ago, where multiple rounds of golf, a couple concerts and two vacations topped the list on the Executive docket. Meanwhile, Governor Bobby Jindal is trying to move heaven and earth to prevent the encroaching spill from spoiling his shores.
The blame game seems to be a pretty popular sport these days. One the left has played to perfection. Did you see they’re blaming George W. Bush for splitting up Al and Tipper Gore? It’s those kinds of hysterics that make your Chairman a little hesitant to start pointing fingers whenever something goes wrong, but if there is someone to blame for this BP disaster, let’s look at some of the original culprits.
Time for a little Common Sense head check. What does a bad economy, high unemployment, record deficits, declining prestige abroad and the worst environmental calamity of its kind in US history all have in common? If you said they’re all challenges poorly meant by President Obama, then you’re ok. If, on the other hand, you said they’re all stem from the Presidency of one George W. Bush, then I’m afraid it’s confirmed . . . you’re suffering from Bush Derangement Syndrome. And judging by the analysis of some of the usual suspects in the old media, it looks like you’re not alone.

The drama continues in the oil-fraught shores of the Gulf Coast, where a completely inept federal response from the White House now has critics on both the left and the right labeling this disaster as Obama’s Katrina.
With the incredible out pour of time and effort given by our volunteers during flood season, it’s safe to say that this part of the country is ground-zero for community involvement. Volunteers come in every color, creed, and political persuasion… their good deeds shouldn’t be dismissed because of what they choose to believe in. We can all agree on that, right? Well . . .not all of us.
“Please do not swallow the skin lotion.” That is an actual disclaimer, ladies and gentlemen, printed on every tube of Benadryl Extra Strength Itch Stopping Gel medication at the behest of the FDA. No kidding! It appears the government’s contempt for your intelligence has reached a new low.
Optimistic that nearly a trillion dollars of bailout funds could help stabilize the economic and civil unrest engulfing Greece, the markets rallied from last week’s bizarre performance to post the biggest one-year gains in more than a year. Hopefully this good news can help silence the chattering classes who are attributing all economic ills to the troubled Mediterranean nation, and end this media-driven frenzy.
November is coming… what are you doing to make a difference? Every day I get more and more frustrated with Team Obama and their Chicago way of politics. Whether it’s the perpetual assault they’re waging on private industry in the form of onerous regulations and job-killing tax and cap energy policies, or this nonchalant amateur-hour approach they’ve taken to the War on Terror, the social experiment of President Obama’s first term cannot continue to a second. That’s why it’s time for you to stand up and win back Washington.
You hear one of these stories and it reminds you why we tolerate subzero temperatures nine months out of the year. Take a look at sunny California: dominated by big-government democrats, their elected leaders have driven the state’s economy straight into the ground long before any mention of a recession. Faced with a staggering unemployment rate of 12.6%, some folks got together to propose a common sense ballot measure that would suspend tax-and-cap energy taxes until jobs picked up again. How has the left responded? In typical fashion.
Democrats claim this legislation will protect taxpayers…that it will never amount to another bailout bill. They say the government has no interest in taking over sectors of the free market; they just want to protect the consumer from greedy corporate fat cats. McConnell’s response? Prove it!
“Big Pharma:” Do those two words make you feel angry? Do they make your pulse raise, your blood pressure rise? If not, odds are you haven’t been listening to the President this year, railing against “Big Pharma” and the big bad insurance company boogeyman in his successful campaign to socialize our healthcare system.
Meet Jason Thomas. He was dropping off his 2 year old daughter at his mother’s house on the morning of September 11, 2001. His mom told him the news about the attack on the World Trade Center. “They got us” was his first reaction. His second was to retrieve his Marine uniform from his car (he served from 1996-2000) and speed to the WTC site.
