In 1970, country singer Roy Clark had a top 10 hit called, “Thank God and Greyhound She’s Gone.” On January 20 we were able to say, thank God and term limits he’s gone.
The “he” of course is the socialist-in-practice, Marxist-at-heart, Constitution-defiling Barack Obama, the only anti-American among America’s 45 presidents. To quote the words spoken by President Gerald Ford in another context, “Our long national nightmare is over.”
I don’t say “God” lightly. There have been instances in American history, most notably during the Revolutionary War, when it seemed that divine intervention turned the tide in our favor. Whether it was such intervention or not, this country was pulled back from the brink of destruction last November 8th when Donald Trump won the presidential election against all odds. Perhaps God has, indeed, blessed America. Never having been destroyed by enemies from without, we were in danger of being destroyed from within.
Had Hillary Clinton won, the America we knew pre-Obama would have been gone forever, with permanent economic stagnation, open borders, freedom-killing political correctness, destructive division and continued cowering in the face of enemies determined to destroy us.
I was among those who believed that America was irretrievably lost after Obama’s two terms in office. I thought his attempts to create a dependent society had so many people beholden to government for “free stuff” that no Republican would occupy the Oval Office again, that so many voters had fallen for the deceit of Democrat demagoguery that their hold on the White House would be permanent. I was wrong.
I was guilty of doing what President Reagan once warned us not to do when he said, “Never underestimate the American people.” It wasn’t that the American people had become subservient to the will of the Democrat party, as I feared, it was that they were waiting for the right leader on the Republican side to come along. That person, Donald Trump, spoke to their concerns in a way that resonated with their common sense, saying many things they believed but were afraid to voice themselves in today’s anti-free speech culture.
The damage Obama has done to this country, although enormous, is not permanent, which speaks to our resiliency. But in his Inaugural Address, President Trump perfectly described the America in steep decline that is Obama’s legacy. MSNBC’s obnoxious Chris Matthews, the biggest horse’s rear end on TV, described the speech as “Hitlarian.” But then, every Republican president in my lifetime with the possible exception of Dwight Eisenhower has been compared to Hitler at one time or another by Democrats.
Name-calling, especially yelling “racist” and “sexist” at every turn, is all the Democrats have left. Their policies have been totally rejected and their bench of potential presidential candidates is weak. And they still don’t know, or won’t admit, why they lost the election. I hope they and their allies in the corrupt mainstream media continue to believe it was because 63-million white supremacists, hate mongers and bigots voted for Trump. If they don’t figure out the truth, that they had a terrible and corrupt candidate out of touch with mainstream America, their road back, if there is one, will be very hard to navigate.
For the first time in eight years I wake up in the morning feeling as though a great fog has lifted, with hope for a better future. Patriotism is back in style and it feels great. Even if he is unable to accomplish all he sets out to do, President Trump will have saved this country from collapse by the mere fact that Hillary Clinton is not president and in a position to deliver the coup de gras to America.
