If Hillary Clinton becomes president next January, which seems more likely than not at this point, it will create permanent one party dominance at the presidential level. As much as my fellow Republicans will not like to hear this, and as much as I’d love to be wrong, there will never again be another Republican president.
In addition to the huge Electoral College advantage the Democrats have, with around 240 Electoral votes of the 270 they need already in the bag before a single vote is counted, the following factors will keep the Democrats in control of the White House in perpetuity.
(1) Almost half of all Americans are now dependent on the federal government, be it for Social Security, disability, Medicare, Medical, food stamps, welfare, unemployment insurance etc., a number that will keep increasing between now and 2020 and beyond. They need the benefits handed out by Big Government and the Democrats are the party of Big Government. The overriding theme of future Democrat campaigns will be, “If you vote for Republicans they will take away your benefits.” It won’t be true, but will anyone want to take a chance?
(2) Both legal and illegal immigration favors the Democrats. The millions of illegals in the country now and the hundreds of thousands of refugees President Clinton will let in will be citizens eligible to vote by 2020 and will vote overwhelmingly Democrat as they always do. If voting patterns showed they voted Republican, it would be President Barack Obama who would be talking about building a wall. With the current Obama and upcoming Clinton administrations strategically dispersing refugees into red states, traditional Republican states will turn permanently Democrat.
(3) With almost half of Americans now paying no taxes, the Republicans have lost and will continue to lose what once was a potent campaign weapon, tax cuts. To a person paying no taxes, tax cuts are meaningless.
(4) Whoever the Republican nominee is, the media will destroy. If they can make a monster of a decent man like Mitt Romney they can and will do it to anyone. Although the media massacre of Donald Trump has now turned into sport, he is a unique case because he is essentially destroying himself. It won’t matter who the nominee in each party is in future elections because the media will always favor & cover up for the Democrat & will always demolish the Republican.
This is especially true now that we have entered the age of the issueless campaign, where the economy, foreign policy, illegal immigration and other formerly important matters take a back seat to personalities, gaffes and scandal. Heaven help a Republican who so much as tore the tag off his mattress 30 years ago.
The tragedy for America is that come January 20 we move from the smiley face socialism of President Obama to full blown European-style socialism under President Clinton and her successors, with higher taxes, more government spending, more burdensome regulations and a worsening economy. Not to mention a continuation of racial strife, unanswered terrorists attacks and a further eroding of the spirit among those who remember what America once was.
After two disastrous Clinton years the Republicans will win or win back Congress in 2018 in a tsunami of voter anger, as in 2010 and 2014. But because Americans vote differently in presidential elections than in congressional elections, Mrs. Clinton will be reelected in 2020 for the reasons stated above, just as President Obama was reelected in 2012 despite losing Congress two years earlier.
In Mexico the PRI party held power for 71 consecutive years until 2000, and is now in power again. What I foresee makes that pale by comparison, a permanent drought for Republicans at the presidential level. Some of my fellow Republicans will call this pessimism but I call it facing reality. Too many politically relevant conditions have changed for the Democrats to ever lose the White House if they retain it in November, and history will record George W. Bush as the last Republican president.
