In what may be President Barack Obama’s most poorly timed proclamation, he asserted on ABC that ISIS has been contained, just hours before the deadly Islamist jihadists’ attacks on Paris. He said (about 1:10 into the video):
“I don’t think they’re gaining strength,” the president told Stephanopoulos in an interview at the White House Thursday. “From the start our goal has been first to contain, and we have contained them. They have not gained ground in Iraq. And in Syria it — they’ll come in, they’ll leave.
“But you don’t see this systematic march by ISIL across the terrain,” he added, using the government’s acronym for ISIS.
Right. Just like Obama contained the Islamic jihadists in Benghazi. And before that, just like he contained them in Syria. And before that, just like he contained them in northern Iraq. And just like he has done in Afghanistan. And just like he has done in northern Africa.
“Folks” in Paris might disagree.
The media should remind us of this foolishness as often as they reminded us of the foolishness of George H. Bush’s “mission accomplished” banner. Should but probably won’t.
