Israel is being criticized, for a change, for sending dozens of the tens of thousands of the African migrants that have flooded the country in recent years, to Uganda.
Some are saying the Jewish state isn’t being concerned enough with the welfare of these migrants, who snuck into the country through Egypt, once they’re back in Africa.
There are several points about this Associated Press story that I find interesting.
First, why are these non-Jewish Africans coming through Egypt to seek asylum in a Jewish country? Why aren’t they staying in Egypt or finding some other of the 22 Arab countries in the region to call home? I wonder what their fate would be if they did. Maybe they’ve considered that, and that helps explain why they’re going to Israel.
But the whole thing flies in the face of the image the anti-Israel/Semitic/Zionist propaganda machine is working so hard to foster worldwide.
If the majority of the international press is to be believed, Israel is a racist, apartheid state – a harsh and terrible place requiring unrelenting censure by the United Nations for its treatment of non-Jews. Yet these wretched souls schlep through entire other counties to get there. Why would that be?
The arrangement evidently includes a one-way ticket and some money, and they Israelis say the relocations are voluntary.
I can’t help wondering how many other countries get rid of their unwanted invaders with a free plane ride and several thousand dollars in walking-around money.
It’s certainly not the way the Jews of England were treated in the 1200s or the Jews of Spain and Portugal in late 1400s, or the Jews of Russia in the 1800s, or of Germany in the 1930s or of the Arab World in 1948. And those people had been living peacefully in and contributing in many positive ways to those countries for centuries before being divested of their belongings and either killed or expelled.
I could be wrong, but my Google search could find no mention of any other case in which rejected immigrants were given a choice to leave and are paid to do it. In fact, in most cases historically, there is no choice and whatever money that changes hands, goes the other way.
In the United States, illegal immigrants are taken back to the border and released like too-small fish. I have not heard of them being handed $3,500 to get them by.
Israel, naturally, is being accused of racism because these “invaders” are African, but it must be remembered that not that long ago, the country rescued and resettled in Israel, thousands of Ethiopian Jews, who are also Black, so it’s not a race thing.
There are some stories of these Christian and Muslim Africans caught in Egypt being abducted and tortured. The only other stories I could find on the subject, were about the situation in Israel.
Why aren’t these people going anywhere else? What is it about Israel, the world’s singular Jewish state, that draws these Christians and Muslims when the world is crowded with Christian and Muslim countries?
I don’t get it.
But, the fact that they’re pouring into the place, leaves the state with few options: Accept them and instantly lose the country’s Jewish character, or find a way to send them elsewhere, which is the course they’ve elected to take. But, even in the endless condemnatory stories in the English-language Arab press, they are doing it in a hugely more humane way than anyone has likely done before.
