In January 2011, President Obama convened what he called the Council on Jobs and Competitiveness. Comprised of business leaders and economists, it was ostensibly set up to offer up ideas on how to get real economic growth and job creation going. Of course, it was all done for show, since A) it only met a handful of times over two years, B) the last time it met was a year ago, and C) in order to get meaningful growth and job creation, you’ve got to reverse literally every single Obama economic policy. Which was clearly not in the offing.
So Obama made a big show of the Council, put General Electric Chairman Jeffrey Immelt in charge, and pretended like he was focused on jobs. In fact, in the summer of 2011, Obama convened the Council for one of its rare meetings. As his puppets surrounded him, Obama was asked about the epic waste of nearly $1 trillion of our money on the failed “stimulus.” He smirked. “Shovel-ready was not as…uh…shovel-ready as we expected,” he replied, chuckling as Immelt and “job council” advisers—-including Eastman Kodak’s CEO, Antonio Perez, whose company later went bankrupt—joined in the laugh.
Ha ha. The joke’s on you, America.
Today the White House announced that the “jobs” Council would be no more, despite unemployment remaining stubbornly and obscenely high.
The truth is that every member of that Council was used as a prop so Obama could look like he was “doing something” on jobs. He never has been and will never be interested in real job creation—because a growing economy and booming jobs market means less of a need for an ever-growing government and the accompanying ever-growing dependency that goes with it.
In other words, a healthy economy means the end to his Grand Project. He can’t have that. And he will not have it.
RIP, phony “jobs Council.” You served your purpose. Now get out.
