The Islamists in Egypt are evidently going full bore after the country’s Christians, and perhaps using the same blood libel-style ploy as has been used for millennium to such stunning effect against the Jews.
Associated Press recently reported that tear gas had to be used to disperse hundreds of Muslim protesters who had gathered outside a church in southern Egypt, accusing a Christian man in his 60s of sexually assaulted a 6-year-old girl.
Based on this unproven rumor, several shops and cars belonging to Coptic Christians in this particular Egyptian province were torched over night. A mini, Arabic Kristalnacht.
After Friday Islamic prayers, residents of this place reportedly surrounded the church, hurling stones and trying to storm it, some even climbing its walls and destroying a cross on its top.
A.P. reports that “flare-ups of violence between Egypt’s Christians and Muslims have become more frequent in the past two years.”
This comes as no surprise to me, having recognized from the start that the so-called “Arab Spring” was in fact the first big storm in what will likely prove a terrible Islamic Winter.
The architects of this “popular uprising” which toppled the dictator who was keeping the violent jihadist genie in the bottle with an iron fist, may be evil, but they aren’t stupid. They clearly have studied Jewish history and learned that finding what’s considered the particular society’s most heinous crime and accusing their target, in this case the Christians, of committing it, can rally the troops to violence like nothing else can.
The Jews were accused in the Dark Ages, for instance, of poisoning the wells and causing the Black Plague, and, in other times, of using the blood of “insert your preferred group’s babies here) with which to make matzo. The Jews have been accused of starting wars, of inventing communism, capitalism and the concept of human rights – whichever was going to most outrage the populace.
Being among Egypt’s smallest minorities and the Middle East’s largest Christian community, the Coptic Christians “fear that the power vacuum that has followed (former dictator Hosni) Mubarak’s overthrow is giving ultraconservatives and extremist Muslims a freer hand to attack churches and
Coptic property, especially in poor areas of the nation,” A.P. reports.
The Copts, “who make up about 10 percent of the country’s 85 million people, have long complained of discrimination by the state,” the story notes.
“They are terrorizing us. They try to find a reason to attack us,” one resident reportedly said. “In no time, this village turned to a ball of fire.”
The resident who declined to give a name for fear of retribution, said an Islamist organization called the Group for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, is behind the plot. He said members of this group have, for the past couple months, been “visiting” cafes, ordering people not to smoke and forcing Muslims to go to the mosque to pray.
In a society based so completely on violence, as are many Muslim societies, this type of thing may be inevitable and can only be changed when the culture undergoes a complete overhaul.
