The headline was: Afghan president pardons imprisoned rape victim.
Could it be made any clearer that the Islamic mentality derives from someplace a million light years from how we think in the West?
Well, in fact, it can. And right in this very same story.
Associated Press reported recently that Afghan President Hamid Karzai is pardoning an Afghan woman serving a 12-year prison sentence for having sex out of wedlock.
The fact that a woman was imprisoned for having extramarital sex is barbaric enough. But the scenario hurtles into another realm altogether when you learn that the sex she was convicted of having was the result of a sexual attack.
The woman was, it turns out, incarcerated for being raped by a relative.
You are unfortunate enough to have been assaulted and raped, by someone in your own family no less, and are then sent to prison for it for more than a decade.
The male relative in the scenario, who also, clearly, had sex out of wedlock at the very same time as the woman he was raping, is apparently in no trouble at all.
And it gets worse.
Karzai’s office also reportedly said the woman is now being released because she and her attacker agreed to marry.
Her decision to submit to a marriage with her rapist, the story says, is a reversal of an earlier one in which she refused a judge’s offer of freedom if she would do so.
The weight and depth of the unfairness and backwardness of a mindset that would punish a woman for being raped and make her a permanent prize for her attacker is almost unfathomable.
I recall reading about this as an ancient practice, that derives from the belief that a defiled woman is damaged goods that will no longer fetch a decent bride price, and therefore is fit only to become the property of the man who made her so.
It’s as though the people in that part of the world are in some sort of state of arrested development. The region time forgot. A black hole of barbarism and savagery.
There is practically no point in discussing anything important with a people of so retarded a mindset.
We and they might as well be on different planets, and I, for one, like ours much better.
Y0ou know, the Jews have an ancient prayer – one that likely derives from about the same time as social mores that would blame a woman for being sexually assaulted, and which I find insulting – thanking G-d for not making the supplicant a woman.
I’ll tell you what… I’d go for a prayer thanking G-d for not making me a woman in a Muslim country. In fact, someone should develop such a prayer, and everyone not a woman in a Muslim country should say it several times a day.
I mean, being trapped in a Muslim country would be terrible enough, but to be a woman trapped behind the kafiya curtain – what a dreadful nightmare.
