Jews Still Falling for the Same Tired 90’s Balkan Tricks: This Time, Simon Wiesenthal Center

The last week of April was Shoah commemoration week, and Professor Peter Maher forwarded this disturbing little item from the Simon Wiesenthal Center:

This Yom Hashoah and during this week of Holocaust commemorations, the Simon Wiesenthal Center will again be involved in extensive worldwide Holocaust programing [sic] including honoring Albanian Muslims who saved Jews during the Holocaust as well as keynoting Yom Hashoah programs in the US, Canada and in Europe.

As the leading Jewish organization fighting against Holocaust denial, educating and preserving the memory of the Shoah named after Simon Wiesenthal, we ask you to support us during this week of Yom Hashoah.

No thanks!

Since my only connection to the Simon Wiesenthal Center is the good Dr. Efraim Zuroff, I sent him the following letter, but he confirmed my sense that he has no connection to those kinds of decisions and no power to stop the honoring of the Albanian Righteous in furtherance of today’s Albanian Nazi agenda (my words):

So SWC is promoting the very timely and politically-motivated exhibit about Albanians helping Jews during WWII. I don’t know how far-removed from all this you are, but I’ve tried to explain in at least five articles what’s wrong with doing this now. While I give credit to the Albanian Righteous, I explain that the point of doing this now is to gain Jewish favor — again — against the Serbs, who it should be noted saved more Jews than the Albanians did. They just didn’t turn it into PR, as always.

Is there any way for the SWC to not be involved in helping this propaganda? It’s not untrue propaganda, but it’s out of context and it’s aimed at a land grab from Serbia, which will be made easier with a suicidal recognition from Israel. Which is what the Albanians are ultimately after. Below are links to what I’ve been trying to explain about this for the past four years — apparently futilely.

“Albanian Jew-duping Exhibit Moves on to St.Louis” (Julia Gorin blog, Oct. 22, 2010)

“Rewriting History in the Balkans” (Connecticut Jewish Ledger, April 30, 2010)

“More on the Albanian Righteous being Used by Modern Albanian Nazis” (New Haven Register is tricked, Julia Gorin blog, March 12, 2010)

“WorldNetDaily.com Falls Victim to Albanian Hoax” (Julia Gorin blog and WND, March 3, 2009)

“Can We Please Stop Using the Jews?” (Jewish World Review, Jan. 29, 2008)

“Radical Islam’s Dupes” (Front Page Magazine and NY Jewish Week, Feb. 14, 2007)

As I make clear throughout these works, the Albanian Righteous should be honored, but they are being used by the modern-day Albanian Nazis — and to restore Hitler’s borders for Greater Albania. If one objects to my “Not Now” suggestion (because right now the use of the Righteous at this moment has a very clear and ethnically pure geopolitical goal), it should be noted that timing has been a consideration in the past — naturally only when the Serbs suffered for that consideration. An example — in addition to the most awful example of excluding the Serbs’ WWII genocide from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum when it opened in 1993 — is when author Gregory Freeman (”The Forgotten 500″) said he’d wanted to publish the book about how Serbs rescued 512 Americans a decade earlier, in 1999, but “it wasn’t a good time.” That is, we were set on bombing Serbs, so exculpatory considerations were to be blacked out. I love Freeman for writing the book, but his silence at a crucial time helped assure all the wrong, violent, and one-sided policies of the 90s. A touch of cognitive dissonance is exactly what was called for, and what might have helped give more Americans some pause.

But I’m straying from the topic, which is that “Not Now” has certainly been considered a valid consideration in the past, and so it should be when it comes to the Albanian Righteous. Jews are falling for all the same 90s ploys all over again — and post-9/11, no less.
