The latest international effort to vilify the Jews continues to escalate, and along with it, not surprisingly, incidents of anti-Semitism.
Meanwhile, Muslims are killing and threatening Christians in Iraq and across the Muslim world, yet most of the media persists in labeling Israel, from which one hears no such stories, the racist country.
Incidents of anti-Semitism are rising everywhere, including in the United States, where
a University of Indiana employee named Mark Zacharias, wanted on felony charges of breaking a Jewish Studies display case with a rock, recently turned himself in.
This comes after vandals have heaved rocks through the windows of two campus Jewish centers and the apartment above the Chabad center there. Also, several Hebrew religious books were found urinated on in eight restrooms in the campus library area, according to reports.
I seem to remember threats of violent riots over a rumor of someone taking a Muslim religious book into a restroom.
I see the anti-Semitic action as an indication of the actors’ low position on the evolutionary scale and the lack of a violent response as evidence of the contrary on the victims’ part.
And if you find yourself in downtown Seattle after the holidays you might catch sight of a new anti-Semitic ad campaign on city buses there.
The Seattle Midwest Awareness Campaign reportedly paid $1,794 to place the ads on 12 buses beginning Dec. 27. They feature a group of children looking at a demolished building under the words “Israeli War Crimes: Your tax dollars at work.”
Ads are accepted for Seattle buses as long as they “do not publicize pornography, alcohol and tobacco, and as long as the images and material used don’t interfere with public safety or incite a riot.”
I think a case could easily be made that these ads could both interfere with public safety and incite a riot.
However, a group known as the American Freedom Defense Initiative has reportedly submitted two ads to the transit authority to counter the anti-Semitic ones.
The ads from the group’s Stop Islamization of America program feature scenes of Hamas’ anti-Israel and U.S. rallies under the heading “One Billion Dollars to Hamas: Your Taxpayer dollars at Work.”
The anti-terrorist ad will evidently cost $1,000 more than the anti-Semitic one.
Meanwhile, the transit authority has reportedly said it’s received more than 1,200 e-mails about the anti-Israel ad, mostly against it.
In case you need more, just recently some 200 headstones in a Brooklyn, NY Jewish cemetery were vandalized and police are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.
In Canada, an elected official named Amir Khadir has reportedly joined a boycott of a Montreal shoe store in the district he represents because it sells Israeli-made products.
The Iranian-born member of the National Assembly reportedly participated in a recent demonstration in front of the store, handing out flyers and asking customers to boycott the shop until it stops selling Israeli-made shoes.
Demonstrations at the store are reportedly spearheaded by a Montreal-based pro-Palestinian group.
I guess elected officials in Canada don’t necessarily feel obligated to represent everyone in their district.
In fact, the man himself said, after catching flak in 2008, for throwing a shoe at a picture of then-U.S. President George W. Bush at a rally, that his constituents knew what they were getting when they elected him.
Hitler could have said the same thing.
For your cutting-off-their-nose-to-spite-their-face file, a memo released by WikiLeaks reportedly shows the Arab League is boycotting Steven Spielberg films because the director made a $1 million donation to Israel during the 2006 Second Lebanon War.
Elsewhere, Israeli police are still investigating whether the murder of an American woman in a forest near Jerusalem allegedly by two Arab men was a criminal act or terrorism.
The woman and her friend were attacked while hiking at an archaeological site near Beit Shemesh. The friend survived by playing dead.
Meanwhile, southern Israel is again being pounded by rockets fired from the Gaza Strip.
The attacks included one that hit near a kindergarten and wounded a young girl.
Israel reiterated her right and intention to defend herself and has asked the United Nations to condemn these attacks on unarmed civilians.
Good luck with that.
I have noticed no public outcry in the streets of anywhere against the random violence against Israeli civilians. But wait until these terrorists deliver the last straw and the Jews hit back. Front page condemnation, everywhere.
Watch for it.
In Greece, which has reportedly experienced increasingly warm ties with Israel as its traditional rival, Turkey grows increasingly anti-Semitic under the rule of its new, more hard-line Muslim leader, someone in the Greek Orthodox clergy evidently didn’t get that memo.
A high-level priest on the morning show of Greece’s largest television station recently blamed world Jewry for the country’s financial problems and pretty much everything else.
“Mixing Freemasons with Jewish bankers such as Baron Rothschild and world Zionism, the Metropolite said that there is a conspiracy to enslave Greece and Christian Orthodoxy. He also accused international Zionism of trying to destroy the family unit by promoting one-parent families and same-sex marriages,” according to the report.
At one point in the program the host reportedly asked this nut job why he opposed Hitler under the circumstances, to which this lunatic cleric said “Adolf Hitler was an instrument of world Zionism and was financed from the renowned Rothschild family with the sole purpose of convincing the Jews to leave the shores of Europe and go to Israel to establish the new Empire.”
And this kook is reportedly not the only one with this type of craziness swirling like poison around in his head.
Several international Jewish groups have called for this guy’s firing.
