Do you think it’s an oversight that no one in the mainstream press writing about the Israeli serial stabber that was recently apprehended, mentions that the man is an Arab and not a Jew?

When I first heard the suspect was an Israeli I was appalled and horrified that a Jew would do such a thing.

I realize that it’s not impossible that a Jew behave barbarically, but it happens so infrequently that I had trouble believing it about his guy, who all the newscasts were saying was an Israeli with dual American citizenship. I had to do some research into the origin of the man’s name to learn the truth.

I think most people assume an Israeli is a Jew; otherwise, the person is usually identified as an Israeli Arab.

But not in this case.

I wonder if the press was for some reason, trying to subliminally leave readers and listeners with the impression that this serial killer is a Jew by noting over and over that he’s from Israel, but failing to mention that he’s an Arab.

Take, for instance, an Associated Press story that appeared in my hometown paper.

The headline proclaims the “Serial stabber a suspect in Israel.”

The story’s dateline is Ramle, Israel and the first paragraph notes that the suspect in the series of stabbings in several U.S. states is also suspected in a stabbing in “his hometown in Israel.”

So far, I’m guessing most of us are assuming this killer is a Jew.

In paragraph four, nothing is done to dispel this impression, when it’s noted that he was arrested in Atlanta as he “prepared to board a flight to his native Israel.”

By my count, that’s four mentions of Israel and zero mentions of Arab.

It is not until the seventh paragraph of the nine-paragraph story, that the writer slips in that “others in the Arab neighborhood he grew up in expressed shock” that he’d become a killer.

It was such a brief reference, one could easily miss it, and finish the article convinced that a Jew had come to the states to kill Americans.

I don’t supposed anyone’s trying to invent moral equivalency to take some of the onus off the Arab tendency toward violence by trying to leave the impression that Jews are also capable of random violence, do you?

I wonder what they think they can gain by further turning public onion against the Jews….

Maybe a huge Islamic mosque at Ground Zero. Oh, wait, that’s already happening.
