The National Football League has a rule that calls for a penalty when a player scoring a touchdown celebrates excessively. It’s normal for a player to spike the ball in the end zone, but if he taunts his opponents or dances around crazily in a burst of uncontrolled exuberance, he draws a referee’s flag.
It’s too bad we don’t have the same rule in real life. If we did, the Muslim mosque to be built within 600 feet of Ground Zero in New York City would be disallowed because it’s a disgusting, in-your-face end zone dance following the 9/11 attack scored against America by Muslim extremists. This mosque is tantamount to taunting and excessive celebrating. New Yorkers are already well aware of the terrorist victory when they go by Ground Zero each day and see nothing there nine years after the day or horror. They don’t need their faces rubbed in it.
That a replacement for the World Trade Center has still not been built by now is an outrage, incidentally. If we lived in a society that had any guts, like back during the time of the Greatest Generation, the twin towers would have been re-built by now exactly as they were before. And if they were knocked down yet again they’d be re-built yet again. And most Americans would be happy to pay extra in taxes to get it done, to show the terrorists that we don’t quit.
How ridiculous for pro-mosque New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg to be running around touting freedom of religion and tolerance vis a vis the mosque when we’re up against a Muslim enemy that practices neither. Imagine how long Bloomberg would last trying to practice his religion in Iran or other Muslim countries.
Americans are probably the most tolerant people on earth. And most of us are sick and tired of being called racist just because we’re a white person who disagrees with the policies of an African-American president or are opposed to illegal immigrants, or a bigot if we don’t like the idea of a Muslim mosque within sight of a place Muslims destroyed.
We may well ultimately lose what used to be called the war against terrorism before President Obama banned the term. Obama, of course, supports the mosque as evidenced by his refusal to speak out against it. He knows the Democrats are in enough trouble this November without giving voters one more reason to reject his party. But the reason we may lose is because political correctness, as if that’s not destructive enough, has now turned into namby-pambyism. It is no longer enough to tolerate our enemies; we now have to afford them any opportunity to slap our other cheek because to stand up to them might hurt their feelings. And the more of us they kill, the more understanding toward them, the more accommodating, we have to be. The terrorists must be laughing at and have utter contempt for such prisiness.
This mosque is just the beginning. There is already a move afoot in the Muslim community to have Sharia law allowed in certain legal proceedings. With people like Bloomberg and Obama and other apologists for the American way of life ready to jump to Muslim demands, I wouldn’t rule it out. Maybe the subsequent stonings and beheadings will be a new TV reality show.
Because this mosque is such an outrage to the 9/11 families and most Americans it should be built elsewhere in New York, far away from Ground Zero, if it has to be built at all. The point has already been made that there is no way the Japanese would propose building a religious center at Pearl Harbor, although it wouldn’t surprise me if Obama invited them to do so as part of his continuing international grovel. Yet there are Muslims, the same ones who seek our sensitivity, who are unwilling to recognize the massive insensitivity their mosque represents.
I wish we had some grand national referee to throw a penalty flag, put an end to the contemptuous end zone dancing and eject from the game those who want to place this affront so near hallowed ground.
