Even as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared the Jews ready to face the new Amelek, that foe is making itself increasingly obvious in more and more places.
Speaking at the site of evidence of the last Amelek – the Auschwitz death camp – Netanyahu told an audience assembled to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day that “We will always remember what the Nazi Amalek did to us, and we won’t forget to be prepared for the new Amalek, who is making an appearance on the stage of history and once again threatening to destroy the Jews,” according to a JTA report. “We will not take this lightly and believe that these are empty statements. We will not be calm as if threats and denial of the Holocaust were just blank words. We will never forget and always remember to stand guard.”
The nation of Amalek has been Israel’s nemesis since the Exodus from Egypt. Nations that have tried to destroy Israel often are referred to as descendants of Amalek.
Netanyahu said that those who recognize the dangers must warn the world while defending themselves.
The event was one of several Holocaust Remembrance Day events held Wednesday in Poland. Another was a “Let My People Live” forum sponsored by the European Jewish Congress, the World Holocaust Forum and Yad Vashem.
Several speakers warned specifically against ignoring the words of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, a Holocaust denier who seems never to tire of threatening Israel and the Jews with extermination.
But Ahmadinejad is only one threat, or a symptom of a greater threat, as evidenced by several other stories reported the same day as this one.
Also reported on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, a Jewish cemetery in Strasbourg was discovered vandalized – with gravestones overturned or daubed with swastikas or phrases like “Juden Raus” (Jews Out) written on them.
At the same time, Malaysia’s former prime minister, Mahathir Mohamad, accused America’s “Jewish lobby” of preventing President Obama from ending the war in Afghanistan at the Conference for the Support of Al-Quds in Australia.
He blamed the infamous “Jewish lobby” from keeping the war going and the Guantanamo Bay prison open, according to the JTA report.
Mahathir also reportedly said there was “strong evidence” that the 9/11 terror attacks were staged as an excuse to wage war against Islam. He reportedly went on to tell an appreciative audience that Jews “had always been a problem in European countries. They had to be confined to ghettoes and periodically massacred. But still they remained, they thrived and they held whole governments to ransom.
“Even after their massacre by the Nazis of Germany, they survived to continue to be a source of even greater problems for the world. If they can make ‘Avatar,’ they can make anything.”
This nut case’s case against the Jews, clearly created out of whole cloth, can be compared to two other stories also reported Wednesday illustrating actual behavior by that new Amelek to which Netanyahu was referring.
“A group of Islamic extremists burst into a French mosque’s prayer service and threatened the presiding imam, known for his efforts to improve Muslim-Jewish ties,” JTA reported. The some 200 worshippers are said to have heard the 80 or so barbarians say, “We are going to liquidate him, this imam of the Jew,” according to the story.
This obviously courageous imam, Chalghoumi, who the Muslim radical barbarians called a “heathen” and a “renegade,” has reportedly consistently spoken against Islamic extremism, and worked actively with Muslim youth and Jewish leaders around France to condemn anti-Semitism.
In 2006, his home was vandalized after his public request that all Muslims respect the memory of the thousands of Jews sent to Nazi death camps from his town, JTA reported, helping prove, once again, the complete opposite of what the former Malaysian leader said is true.
The problem is not confined to central Europe, either. Greece is also having anti-Semitism problems , JTA reports.
A well-known “liberal radio personality” there said on his show that “There are no good Jews. Jews are pigs and murderers, but fortunately, their days are numbered.”
Nice, eh?
Also, a newspaper there blamed American Jews for causing the global economic crisis, and warned they are plotting to set off World War III, according to the report.
A prominent Greek Orthodox Church official reportedly warned of “Zionist monsters with sharp claws,” and another said publically the Jews were being punished for killing Christ.
All this is going on as one of the few remaining synagogues in Crete was torched – not once, but twice – with no official Greek condemnation until after complaints were made following the second arson, according to the report.
The story notes that “while Jews in Western Europe have suffered worse in recent years, Greece stands virtually alone for its lack of condemnation of attacks against Jews,” and that Greek Jews are “increasingly anxious.”
I think we, and by we, I mean all Jews and everyone else who values life and stands in favor of humanity and human decency, must reject the political correctness upon which Western civilization is strangling, identify the enemy in no uncertain terms, strategize and implement a plan to save our world.
We must face this Amelek head on.
At one of the Polish Holocaust memorials, Yad Vashem Chairman Rabbi Meir Lau, who survived Dachau and Buchenwald, reportedly said that “Leaders of the world, 65 years after the Holocaust, have to learn from my mother,” who handed him to an older brother in hopes of saving his life. He was 7 years old and never saw his mother again.
“When there is a threat, danger of extinction of society, make a decision,” Lau said. “Be brave enough, determined enough. Don’t hesitate.”
