–For anyone who still doesn’t understand that liberalism is the essence of hypocrisy, Canada’s Financial Post columnist Diane Francis offers up a glaring example: “The ‘inconvenient truth’ overhanging the UN’s Copenhagen conference is not that the climate is warming or cooling, but that humans are overpopulating the world. A planetary law, such as China’s one-child policy, is the only way to reverse the disastrous global birthrate…” Reality check: Ms. Francis has two children.
So which kid drinks the hemlock to “save the planet,” Ms. Francis?
–On several occasions this column has pointed out that the federal government is an ever-expanding enterprise completely removed from the economic realities endured by the private sector. Unfortunately, the scope is stunning: at the same time the private sector was shedding 7.3 million jobs, the number of federal workers earning over $100,000 or more a year increased from 14 to 19 percent, and the average federal salary increased to $71,206 a year. Average private sector salary? $40,331.
In other words, millions of private sector workers–and taxpayers–struggling to survive a lousy economy are subsidizing people making almost thirty thousand dollars a year on average more than they do. People who are virtually immune to economic turbulence. Completely outrageous, indefensible–and unsustainable for a government drowning in debt.
–Senate Majority leader Harry Reid likened Republicans who don’t support a government takeover of health care to lawmakers who “clung to the institution of slavery.” Reid knows he can get away with such drivel because most Americans are unaware of the historical fact that it was the Democratic Party–led by”Dixie-crats”–who consistently opposed equality for black Americans.
One has to wonder what Mr. Reid thinks of his fellow Americans, 61% of whom oppose this legislation, according to a Friday CNN News poll. That’s CNN, Harry, not Fox. A poll question I’d like to see: Harry Reid, genius or jerk?
–About six months ago, a golf broadcast marveled at the rigor of Tiger Woods’ self-imposed training schedule, a combination of vigorous exercise, weight training and practice that ostensibly put him at the pinnacle of the golf world. As most of us know by now, Tiger’s “training” was far more extensive, and his carefully crafted image is a complete sham.
Ironically, the January 2010 cover of Golf Digest Magazine will show Tiger posing with another American whose carefully crafted image is also completely disconnected from reality: president Barack Obama.
–Climate change hustlers and their media sycophants are completely (and intentionally?) misleading the American people regarding the commitment of two of the world’s biggest greenhouse gas emitters, China and India, to reduce their emissions. Townhall.com’s Max Schulz:
“China, for instance, did not pledge to cut its carbon emissions, but rather its carbon intensity. Those are two very different things. Carbon intensity is the measure of carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP. China is industrializing and modernizing its economy at breakneck speed. As it grows richer and its economy grows more efficient, China’s carbon intensity naturally will decline.
As for China’s presently soaring carbon emissions, those will continue to rise in absolute terms even as carbon intensity drops…India’s story is much the same.”
In other words, the only major industrialized nation willing to toss its economy under the bus by cutting its overall emissions is the United States. No surprise coming from a president and a political party dedicated to the idea that fundamentally flawed America must atone for its sins. Climategate? Nothing more than an “inconvenient distraction” for the true believers–but a gigantic red flag for those dedicated to the idea that science and politics should be mutually exclusive.
–On November 17th, AirTran flight 297 from Atlanta to Houston was the scene of some disturbing–and seemingly coordinated–behavior initiated by thirteen men dressed in “traditional Muslim attire.” As a result, the aircraft was taxied back to the terminal and the men were taken off the plane by the TSA. Their baggage was also removed and searched, revealing nothing. Subsequent investigation revealed all of them were “acquainted” with each other and each associated with a large Islamic center “that has been the subject of investigative interest,” according to the Canadian Free Press. An AirTran spokesman call it an “isolated incident” and said the airline considers the case “closed.”
Reality check: three “isolated incidents” on Sept. 11, 2001 killed 3000 innocents, brought down the largest buildings in NYC, damaged the Pentagon, and would have likely damaged the White House as well, were it not for the heroic actions of passengers. It has been said such takeovers of jets by fanatics would likely never occur again given the new mindset of passengers. Really? Perhaps the best way to test passenger reactions would be a dress rehearsal of disruptive behavior–followed by the real thing at a later date.
But why worry? According to Janet Napolitano, Secretary of the Homeland Security Dept., such terrorist attacks are nothing more than “man-caused disasters,” and, according to the president, the war on terror is not a war, but an “overseas contingency operation.” Such soothing semantics, however, cannot sugar-coat one daunting reality: dead is dead, all the political correctness in the world notwithstanding.
–Lastly, the NY Post hired former(?) prostitute Ashley Dupre as a sex advice columnist. Ms. Dupre’s principal claim to fame was screwing former NY Governor Eliot Spitzer–both literally and figuratively.
From bimbo celebrities, through Tiger Woods’ harem to Ms. Dupre, a disturbing revelation emerges: living a relatively decent life is for suckers. Memo to the ostensibly conservative, family-values promoting Post: when there’s ten million Americans out of work, hiring a hooker is an insult–and stunningly hypocritical as well.
