Question: What do the majority of Americans want? Answer: The Obama administration and the Democratically-controlled Congress couldn’t care less.
Don’t want to be forced to buy health insurance? Tough. If the Democrats’ health care boondoggle passes, you either pay up or you get fined or thrown in jail. Dolts–and I do mean dolts–rationalize this by saying that one is forced to buy car insurance in order to drive. That’s correct–but I can choose not to drive. Americans can’t choose not to exist–unless they commit suicide. Perhaps that’s the kind of end of life counseling Democrats envision.
Don’t want cap-and-trade–even more so now that the so-called “settled science” is anything but? Too bad. The president’s headed to the climate change conference in Copenhagen and he, Congressional Democrats, a totally compromised mainstream media, and a bunch of lying scientists aren’t about to let the truth interfere with their political agenda, no matter how “inconvenient” it may be.
Sacred to death about trillions of dollars in government debt? So what. Democrats, whose mantra is “for the children,” and who ran against Republicans’ “culture of corruption” have out-corrupted them by a factor of four-to-one in reckless, deficit spending–and they indicate no intention whatsoever to stop the madness.
Need a job? Get serious. See the above three items–all of which will require massive tax increases to maintain–and figure out how taking billions more out of a private sector already strapped by tough times will engender the risk-taking, incentive and capital formation necessary to create future employment. And while you’re at it, remember that when you single out better-off Americans for higher taxes–and class-envy scorn–it isn’t likely they’ll respond by making sure you’re better off. Would you create jobs for people who think you’re evil simply for being successful?
Think we should be fighting a war against religious terrorists determined to destroy our way of life? The heck with you. As far as this bunch is concerned, this is no such thing as war. There are “overseas contingency operations” against “insurgents” who commit “man-caused disasters.” And when the worst of the worst is captured, they’ll get their O.J. Simpson-like civilian trial with international press coverage they can use to bash America. And every one of these savages will be just one hand-wringing jurist or one activist judge away from being acquitted completely, or given a wrist-slap sentence for killing thousands of Americans.
Think people who come to America should do it legally? Nuts to you. “Undocumented workers,” one of the lamest terms ever used to obscure the truth about illegal immigrants, aren’t just here to stay. They’re getting in-state tuition for college, drivers licenses, “sanctuary” in cities that defy federal law–and national health insurance if Democrats get their way. As Doctor Phil might ask the nearly-bankrupt state of California, “how’s that working for you?” Answer: over 12% of Californians aren’t working at all.
It is difficult to think of another time in modern history when an administration and a Congress were as disconnected from the American public as they are now. That is not to say that either should march in lockstep with the majority position of the electorate on every issue. But how about one or two? How about listening to one’s constituents and taking their concerns seriously? How about demonstrating something other than the utter arrogance that engenders the “we know what’s better for you than you do” attitude that has most Americans seething?
Such unfettered arrogance is liberal Democrats’ tragic flaw. And for the next year, Americans are likely going to endure whatever this Congress and administration decide to do, even if most of us are adamantly against it.
November, 2010? Payback time.
