Well, the great promise to bring the 2016 Olympics home to Chicago was, in the words of Bob Uecker, “Just a bit outside!” Truth be told, it missed by a mile. Out of four cities bidding, the Windy City came in fourth. I was going to propose my hometown of Teaneck, N.J. I would have TIED them! Rio, Madrid and Tokyo beat my city, too. And, they spent a lot more of our taxpayers money for their efforts.
I didn’t cost the U.S. of A a dime! No sir.
Maybe I should run for President. We would have a lower budget.
I knew Chicago was in trouble when Michelle Obama announced to the world they were going to, “take no prisoners” in her mission to capture the Games. When Oprah teamed up with her I thought, “Dear Lord, how is the world going to react to these TWO?”
Last place. Eliminated in the first round. It was not even close. They were the Atlanta Braves of these Internationally Negotiated Playoffs.
They had the chutzpah of Kerri Strug nailing her vault on a badly sprained ankle. Unfortunately, they had the talent of Rosie Ruiz running the Boston Marathon.
McArthur promised the Philippines, “I shall return!” And, he did. Joe Namath promised, “We’re gonna win this game. I guarantee it.” And, he did. Babe Ruth called his home run shot in the 1932 World Series and Thelma and Louise promised to go out in a blaze of glory and, they did.
Now, we have Wile E. Coyote I and II wasting our money to fly to Copenhagen to sip wine and strut their stuff as they believed their own press that they were, “all that” and capable of doing something they were woefully ill equipped to do. They had as much chance of pulling this off as a Pete Rose bet.
When these two babes looked Chicago in the eye and promised to deliver the Olympic Games how many of the IOC members rolled their eyes? I will give you a hint…ALL OF THEM!
But, the Obama administration lives in its own fantasy world. So, they boarded the plane and began their Walter Mitty excursion. Of course, when they return everyone on Michigan Avenue and the South Side will be cheering them on like they actually accomplished something…
In the Obama way of thinking saying you are going to do something is the same as DOING something.
Because there were prisoners taken in Copenhagen.
Two of them.
