“It’s bulls***. It’s disgraceful. You wonder which side they’re on”–Rep. Peter King (R-NY) commenting on Attorney General Eric Holder’s decision to conduct an investigation of CIA terrorist interrogators.
While I share Mr. King’s assessment of AG Eric Holder’s behavior, we part company regarding any “wonder” about “who’s side they’re on.”
They, or more specifically, the radical American left in control of Congress and the White House, are on their own side. It is the side which sees no essential difference between CIA interrogators trying to prevent another 9/11-like domestic atrocity and those trying to perpetrate one. It is the side which views any of their fellow Americans who disagree with their ideology as enemies on a par with the most bloodthirsty jihadists on the planet.
It is the side for whom the videotaped beheadings of innocents by Islamic savages and verbal threats made by CIA interrogators are equable manifestations of “torture.” It is the side which was outraged when CIA agent Valerie Plame’s identity was made public, yet remains indifferent when left-wing lawyers from the John Adams Project take photographs of covert CIA agents and show them to their jihadist clients at Guantanamo Bay.
There is no wonder at all about their motives. Everything these people do is based on the premise that America is an intrinsically flawed nation requiring a make-over of epic proportions. Our democratic republic and our free-enterprise economy must be brought into “alignment” with a world full of authoritarian governments and socialist, economic basket-cases. Individual incentive must give way to collectivist re-distributionism. Personal freedom must be tempered by “social justice.”
Such an arrogant worldview, and its contaminating influence on the American experience, is unsustainable. Attorney General Holder is literally attempting to emasculate the CIA’s ability to “connect the dots” in order to placate the worst elements of American society: a conglomeration of Woodstock-worshipping hippies, faux-intellectual snobs, ivory tower academics, and every other member of the “Hate America” crowd who yearns for our nation’s “comeuppance” on the world stage.
One more domestic terrorist attack undoes them all. After 9/11, a stunned and grief-stricken public largely ignored the radicals who blamed America for that atrocity. Such reasonableness in the face of another tragedy–especially one caused by the reluctance of our intelligence community to put themselves in potentially compromising circumstances–will not be forthcoming.
Mr. Holder, if you and fellow travelers want to put your heads on the chopping block, far be it from me to remove them. But the idea that innocent Americans might end up being killed to satisfy an utterly bankrupt ideology is beyond contemptible.
Rep. Peter King was far too polite in his assessment. May God have mercy on every one of you, should the unthinkable come to pass.
Bet the farm the American public won’t.
