Much to the surprise of the arrogant liberals who control the federal government, many Americans are resisting their “vision” to re-make an America they see as hopelessly broken. Currently the battleground is healthcare, but only a liberal twit would believe this particular subject is the sole repository of American disgust and discontent. Healthcare is only one battle–in a much bigger war.
Predictably, an American left which believes it owns the franchise on enlightened thinking has been quite “creative” in their characterizations of the health care protesters. Nancy Pelosi has called grass-roots opposition “Astroturf” stunts and implied that those showing up for the meetings are Nazis because they are “carrying swastikas and symbols like that to a town meeting on health care.” Sen. Barbara Boxer and White House spokesman Robert Gibbs believes they’re “too well dressed” to be anything but fakes. Rep. Brian Baird (D-WA) characterized protesters’ anger as “close to Brown Shirt tactics.” The Democratic National Committee called them “angry mobs” emanating from the “right wing extremist base.”
In short, Americans who protest a government takeover of healthcare are little more than organized thugs. With all due lack of respect, a question: organized thugs–compared to whom?
Code Pink who never missed an opportunity to bash the military and our “terrorist” former president? How about ACORN whose tactics have earned that organization indictments–and convictions? How about the New Black Panther Party whose attempt to intimidate voters in Philadelphia was referred to the Justice Dept.–who inexplicably dropped the case? How about MoveOn.org who called General Petraeus General “Betrayus” for “crime” of dedicating his life to protecting America?
And who can possibly forget the countless number of left-wing college students on campuses across the country who have intimidated, harassed–and attacked–conservative speakers daring to exercise their First Amendment rights?
Hypocrites one and all, but they pale in comparison to an administration headed by a former community organizer not only denigrating community organizing, but creating a website, flag@whitehouse.gov for Americans who wish to rat out their fellow Americans for saying something “inaccurate” about the current health bill.
Considering most of Congress hasn’t bothered to read the bill, maybe their names should be added to this latest incarnation of a government enemies list.
But I digress. The current battle is healthcare, but the “war” has only begun. It is a war between those who lust for an exponential increase in government power, and those who believe these power-hungry jackboots need to be stopped. It is a war between those who believe the American taxpayer is little more than an ATM machine whose desire for autonomy, freedom and prosperity must be subjugated to the whims of their “betters” in Congress and the White House–versus those who believe such intellectual elitism is the unadulterated crap of banana republics and totalitarian dictatorships.
Liberals would like to believe that once the healthcare imbroglio is settled, things will return to “normal.”
Not a chance. Americans recognize a fork in the road when they see one. Either we return to the founding principles of Constitutional government and the free enterprise system that made this country the envy of the world–or we endure a socialist nightmare of never-ending debt, eroding liberty and corrupted power-mongers who dispense “social justice” however they see fit.
Americans also recognize cowardice when they see it: many Democrats have decided to dodge talking to their constituents by avoiding town hall meetings altogether.
Such dodging might become a regular occurrence. Despite liberal arrogance, it is highly unlikely Americans will roll over and meekly accept the leftist agenda regarding other “inconsequential” things–such as illegal immigration, cap-and-trade, trillion dollar deficits, etc.
Bet the farm they won’t, and here’s why: most Americans can’t think of a single thing the government tries to control that results in cost savings, efficiency or superior quality and delivery of goods or services. Not one.
So brace yourselves, do-gooders. If the historical track record of this country is any indication, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
