According to Osama Bin Laden, one of the principle reasons for the perpetration of the 9/11 atrocities was to cripple the American economy. He and al Qaeda needn’t have bothered. A feckless Congress and a clueless president are more than up to the job.
The ultimate progressive agenda–the cap-and-trade scheme–is as lethal an economic punch our country could possibly be forced to endure in the best of times, much less now. Millions of Americans already dealing with hardship–all of which can be traced either directly or indirectly back to the reckless habits of Congress–will see trillions of dollars of additional debt piled on top of that which we already have. Taxes will explode, and inflation will erode the value of whatever Americans have left after government gets theirs.
Jobs? What companies will add jobs when government mandates send the cost of doing business costs through the roof? The $787 billion “stimulus” package was supposed to keep unemployment under 8%. It’s now 9.3%–and the same administration who told us that would never happen is the one telling us that this boondoggle is necessary and affordable.
That’s a lie. It is neither. But don’t take my word for it. Here’s what president Obama himself said in San Francisco in January, 2008:
“Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.”
Is that the “hope and change” Americans want in the midst of the severest and longest recession we’ve endured since the Great Depression? Could al Qaeda come up with a more effective plan for killing any potential recovery of the economy?
Cap-and-trade is the essence of progressivism: spending money we don’t have to solve a problem that doesn’t exist.
Once again I will remind Americans of my idea for the 2010 election: G.R.O.I.N., which stands for “Get Rid Of Incumbents Now.” Party affiliation is largely irrelevant because both of them have contributed mightily to our current mess. Incumbency or if you prefer, the status quo, is killing the country. Anyone who signs onto this lunacy or any other program that propels America deeper into debt should be sent packing. Anyone who recognizes that government taxing-and-spending needs to be dramatically reduced–not just maintained or increased–should be sent to Washington D.C.
The alternative? A recession which lasts for years, due to our inability to get out from under mountains of IOUs being held by China and other countries. A future in which America is reduced to “just another country” which, as I have said many times before, is the prevailing attitude among those whose “vision” for America consists of making everyone equally miserable in order to be “fair.”
It’s a tragedy that the world is full of people who wish to see America brought to its knees. It’s an obscenity that so many of them work in Washington D.C.
