My take on the David Letterman “comedy” bit regarding Sarah Palin and her daughter:
According to Letterman himself, his crack about Ms. Palin’s daughter being “knocked up” by Yankee Alex Rodriguez during the seventh inning stretch of a Yankee game wasn’t directed at Palin’s 14-year-old daughter, Willow, who accompanied her mother to New York, but her 18-year-old daughter Bristol. In other words, Dave’s “defense” is that he wasn’t picking on a fourteen-your-old girl, he was picking on an eighteen-year old girl. Thus, in Dave’s world, 62-year old man ridiculing an 18 year old girl is just fine.
He referred to Sarah Palin’s clothing style as that of a “slutty flight attendant” which apparently he and his writers thought was an appropriate way to describe a former Vice Presidential Candidate. Does anyone else wonder what Geraldine Ferraro might have to say about it?
Liberals on websites have said taking offense at such jokes shows that conservatives lack a sense of humor. Really? Here’s a litmus test for liberals: would you be OK with ANY joke about Barack Obama’s daughters? How about a joke referring to Michelle Obama’s clothing style resembling that of a “slutty flight attendant?”
Don’t think so, but we’ll never know: a “brave” guy like David Letterman wouldn’t dare be that condescending to a fellow liberal. Only conservatives and Christians can be bashed with impunity.
Lastly, though I am, at this time, unsure of Sarah Palin’s qualifications regarding the presidency, I am absolutely sure of one thing: she scares the hell out of liberals. For whatever reason, she has the uncanny ability to bring out their rank hypocrisy regarding feminism, bigotry and misogyny. For that reason alone she should run.
