The problem with most liberals is that they are not liberal when it comes to tolerating opposing views from their own. Their definition of, “politically correct” is when it is in accordance with their politics. If not, they are outraged and in attack mode. This leads one to observe that if we ever had a totalitarian state it would emanate from the left and not the right.
The latest example of this bias is the USA Pageant on Sunday night in the appropriate location of Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, Nevada. If Hollywood was a planet, goofiness would abound and that is what happened to Carrie Prejean, Miss California, who finished as the runner-up to the winner, Miss North Carolina. However, Ms. Prejean will be remembered far longer than the Lady Tarheel for what she said in response to a question in the competition concerning her views on same-sex marriages.
To the astonishment of most liberals everywhere, Ms. Prejean stated she did not agree to same-sex marriages citing her upbringing that marriage should only exist between a man and a woman. Ms. Prejean, a strong Christian, had the audacity to express her beliefs and defend the word of God and glorify her Savior in the process. The outcry that followed made one wonder if she had espoused Hitler’s extermination of the Jews or defended the Japanese at Pearl Harbor. One of the pageant officials, Keith Lewis, the co-director of the Miss USA competition said in a statement that he was, “personally saddened” by her belief that marriage was a heterosexual union. Another critic, Perez Hilton, one of the liberal judges who supposedly espouses freedom of speech immediately gave her a ZERO on her answer costing her any chance of the Miss USA title. Why? Because, in his opinion, she was supposed to represent ALL Americans by her answer.
I think he means she is supposed to represent all HIS Americans by her answer.
Evidently, when you put on a pageant you have the right to criticize any of the contestants who do not agree with you. I never knew that before Sunday. I always assumed that these young ladies, who live in AMERICA, were allowed to give their own opinions whether they coincided with beauty pageant officials or not. Isn’t that the democratic process? Is this freedom of speech or a propaganda contest orchestrated by the, “tolerant left-wingers?”
Translation: Liberal does not actually MEAN liberal in politics or pageants.
For all you young girls out there who have aspirations of becoming Miss USA someday it would be a great idea if you started hanging around Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins if you want to WIN these competitions. Because as soon as you go against the political left you can forget your chances to wear a crown in your lifetime. With this in mind, maybe we should change the wording to the Miss America song, too?
“There she goes, Miss Alec Baldwin’s beliefs, there she is, Streisand’s ideal…”
Are we coming to a day when our futures are compromised by whether or not we agree with Oprah, Rosie and Perez Hilton? God forbid that a young woman like Carrie Prejean loses her dream for being true to her honest beliefs! Am I to be ostracized as a writer now that I have mentioned, “God?”
The media is babbling on and on about the, “scandal” that rocked the Miss USA pageant. They were right about one thing, it was scandalous. But, not because Carrie Prejean had the dignity and class to speak from her heart but because pageant officials revealed their true colors about why they put on pageants. These colors are not red, white and blue. They cowardly yellow when they reflect the personal politics of an intolerant official instead of allowing young women to express their hopes, dreams and beliefs in a country found on liberty and freedom.
