As I watched former Illinois Attorney General (and African-American) Roland Burris try to make his way into the U.S. Senate to take his seat in that body, only to be blocked by Harry “The War is Lost” Reid and other (white) Democratic leaders, a question came to mind:
Where were all of the so-called “civil rights” leaders walking with him, arms linked?
Where were Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Cornell West, Harry Belafonte, Louis Farrakhan, or Michael Eric Dyson? Where was anybody from the NAACP or the Urban League? Where was Oprah? Where were ANY of these people to help this guy?
The man who appointed Burris, Democratic Governor Rod Blagojevich, has been neither indicted nor impeached. He retains all state Constitutional powers, including the power to make a Senate appointment. And since there is an ongoing investigation into whether Blago had previously tried to sell that seat, Burris’s appointment had to be exceptionally clean and scandal-free. So why the silent treatment? Why are all of the “civil rights” guys AWOL?
Burris was trying to cross the Edmund Pettus bridge and no one was there to lock arms and walk the gauntlet with him in solidarity.
The race-hustlers and hypocrites were nowhere to be found.
Can you imagine Senate Minority Leader (Republican and white guy) Mitch McConnell trying to lock out a black man from Congress? Sharpton and Jackson would be screaming about the “racism” of the Republican party and organizing boycotts of everything.
Instead, because it’s a bunch of white, beta-male DEMOCRATS doing it, I can only assume—based on their acquiescence—-that they think it’s OK.
The Dems always say that they “heart” diversity. Except when they don’t.
