See, this is the kind of stuff that fries my rutabagas.
The Associated Press reported Thursday that Egypt’s foreign minister said Hamas must ensure rocket fire against Israel stops in any truce deal to halt Israel’s assault on the Gaza Strip.
So far so good, right?
But then the reporter says the man criticized the Palestinian militants for giving Israel an excuse to launch the attack, as though Israel sits around waiting for any excuse to wreak death and destruction.
What garbage.
Anyone paying attention knows the old adage is true — if the Palestinians laid down their weapons, there would be no more war. If the Israelis laid down their weapons, there would be no more Israel.
So, the Turkish leader called on Israel to halt its attacks and on Hamas to stop firing rockets on Israel.
Sounds reasonable.
Except Israel has been calling on Hamas to stop firing rockets on its civilian population centers for years. Where were these concerned parties when hundreds of missiles were landing on Israeli towns? How come it only becomes an international crisis when Israel finally strikes back?
It’s like that movie Groundhog’s Day. A never-ending loop.
Israel strikes back after months or years of unprovoked attacks about which worldwide public opinion remains completely silent.
Creating human shields of their own people, Hamas, Hezbollah or whatever Islamic terrorist group is active at the moment, fires on Israel from inside densely populated areas, counting on maximum civilian carnage from Israel’s retaliatory response for the propaganda value.
This they film and post on Web sites and even manipulate or manufacture for the press to try to get the world to save it from the big, bad Jews.
The world hits the streets in mass protests against all things Jewish over the terrible treatment of the Palestinians. Israel is compared with Nazi Germany, and the Palestinians painted as victims of a Holocaust.
And the Israelis, who suffer at some level from the typical Jewish guilt complex, and who generally are loath to destroy human life anyway, relent, usually conceding something tangible like territory in exchange for promises of verifiable cease-fires which never, ever hold, leading to months or years of unprovoked attacks…
And the cycle repeats.
You really got to hand it to the Arabs. They have this psychological warfare thing down to an art. And since most people have no memory at all, coupled with the fact that the radical Arab leadership has no qualms about using their own people as cannon fodder, the ploy continues to be effective.
And with each new episode, Israel gets just a little smaller and the Islamists, just a little better armed.
We need to get into the Arab mind the way they’ve gotten into ours and find their Achilles heel, until we find a cheap, renewable source of energy to permanently replace petrolium-based fuel. That’s the day the West’s problem with Islamic terrorists is solved.
I hope we can hold on that long.
