Find in this press release a link to a 30 minutes long interview with Dr Walid Phares conducted by Greta Brawner on C-Span’s “Washington Journal.” Dr Phares, Director of the Future Terrorism Project at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies reviewed the latest Zawahiri audio tape and discussed the challenges ahead of the forthcoming US Administration.
The main points made by Dr Phares are:
1. al Qaeda is trying to consolidate its base after the international media positive coverage of the Obama electoral victory.
2. al Qaeda is warning the US from sending any additional forces to Afghanistan
3. Bin laden is not appearing probably because of physical and security conditions.
4. Answering a number of callers who claimed the tape was a fake, Phares said the tape is consistent with the general mood in the Jihadi Salafist web.
Interestingly, many of the callers expressed their “disbelief that the Jihadists would continue to threaten the United States despite the election of Obama.” A caller said “I hoped Terrorism would just go away..”
