“Remember I said it standing here. if you don’t remember anything else I said. Watch, we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.”–Democratic VP candidate Joe Biden on our enemies’ likely reaction to an Obama presidency.

In one incredible statement, Joe Biden has encapsulated one of the principle fears of clear-thinking Americans: our enemies know a naif when they see one. They see a man who said “tiny” countries like Iran, Cuba and Venezuela pose “no serious threat” to the United States. They see a man who would have allowed Americans soldiers to lose a war they’ve won in Iraq. They see a man who urged “both sides to show restraint” when the Russians seized control of Georgia. They see the true meaning behind Barack Obama’s promise to “restore our image around the world:” we will accommodate those that hate this country, and “negotiate without pre-conditions” with those who would destroy us.

In a time of economic turmoil, it is easy for Americans to forget that our enemies are always plotting. It has been made immeasurably easier by a mainstream media which has done everything possible to minimize one of the Bush administration’s most enduring triumphs: there have been no other domestic terror attacks for eight years.

Only fools would believe the president’s aggressive, take-the-fight-to-the-enemy tactics have no relationship to that reality. Only bigger fools believe that those who yearn for our destruction by any means necessary can be persuaded by clever phrases or “aura.”

Some Americans may be besotted by a Harvard-educated lawyer who can turn a phrase. But head-chopping cave-dwellers with fanatical dreams of world domination couldn’t give a rat’s rear end.

And Joe Biden knows it: “I promise you, you all are going to be sitting here a year from now going, ‘Oh my God, why are they there in the polls, why is the polling so down, why is this thing so tough?’ We’re going have to make some incredibly tough decisions in the first two years. I’m asking you now, be prepared to stick with us. Remember the faith you had at this point because you’re going to have to reinforce us.”

Be prepared to “stick with you,” Sen. Biden? You mean like Democrats stuck with George W. Bush when HIS polling went down, when HE made tough decisions? You should be ashamed to ask for that which you and your party were determined to deny a wartime president for nothing more than political gain.

Is there greater irony than those who were completely faithless for the last eight years now pleading for faith?

Americans should be very clear about Joe Biden is really saying: he believes our country has to “take one for the Obama team” so that Barack can get some on-the-job training. He’s saying all those aligned against America have a definite preference in the upcoming election. He’s saying an international incident–perhaps one involving thousands of American casualties–is a necessary price for “change.”

Such insanity might be dismissed if it were uttered by a Republican. But it wasn’t. It was uttered by the Democratic Vice Presidential candidate himself. Question: is there is a more damning indictment of Barack Obama, and the Democratic Party regarding their national security credentials than this?

Barack Obama may need testing, Mr. Biden, but Americans don’t. We don’t need to go through another day of jetliners crashing into skyscrapers while our enemies fire guns in the air to celebrate.

We don’t need another national trauma for “experience sake.”
