The really disturbing thing about the incident involving “Joe the Plumber” is the speed with which the media — which is in efect to say Obama’s staff — sprang into action to dig up all sorts of dirt on the poor man. Within days of his asking a simple question, we knew more about Joe the Plumber’s private life than we do about Obama’s — and he’s been on the campaign trail for two years.
A media that has been singularly uninterested in the precise nature of Obama’s relationship with the terrorist Bill Ayers and racists like Louis Farrakhan and Jeremiah Wright, has plumbed the depths of a working man’s life to dig up dirt and embarass him simply for having asked a question that put the messiah in an bad light. For that he must be punished, and Obama’s surrogates in the media willingly obliged.
No doubt they hoped to find evidence that Joe was a McCain operative, perhaps even a campaign official. Instead, they found that he was a just a simple guy trying to get by. Nonetheless, they trashed his reputation, releasing details of his divorce, his financial troubles, and his business practises.
The entire episode has a very sordid quality to it. Not even Richard Nixon could have destroyed a man’s life so efficiently. Joe’s treatment at the hands of the Obama campaign is nothing short of a political mugging. And, a political candidate who allows his allies to savage a private citizen like this is unfit for the office he seeks.
