Nobody else seems to want to say this in America, so I will, via example.
Here’s a Washington Post article arguing (under the guise of reporting) that those with religious objections to medical procedures should be forced to perform them anyway. (Don’t miss the side order of “Republicans distort science,” too!) Nothing new in that bias. Also, note that what’s understood in this piece is that the objectors are Christians.
If the objectors were Muslim, this argument wouldn’t be happening. They’d be accommodated. End of story, period, full stop. You know it, I know it, and every liberal in America knows it, and every conservative, too. The people involved in this story know it. Nobody doesn’t know it.
There were once cultural taboos against offending Christianity. Few still remain. Whether that is good or bad is irrelevant–it was, simply, the way things were. Today, Christians are easy and popular targets. Many cultural mavens go out of their way to spit on Christianity in general and Christians in particular. But they don’t touch Islam. Frankly, they don’t have the cajones for that fight–cowards.
So the lesson here is: If you want to shut down those who oppose accommodation for religious objections, don’t complain as a Christian. Complain as a Muslim.
