At the Huffington Post, Bill Press says that McCain’s “celebrity” ad is racist because it includes images of Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. By featuring two “white blonde bimbos,” he says (note his sexist language), the McCain campaign “is simply trying to plant the old racist seed of black man hitting on young white woman.”
He tries to drive home his point with a question: “Of all the famous celebrities they could have compared Obama to, why not Tom Cruise? Or Arnold Schwarzenegger, or Donald Trump, or Oprah Winfrey?” There is a simple answer: they have had serious careers.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, before winning the governorship of California, was a successful businessman, chaired the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, and sponsored a ballot initiative on after-school education.
