“Let me say something about his (Barack Obama’s) message management. He didn’t have reporters with him. He didn’t have a press pool. He didn’t do a press conference while he was on the ground either on Afghanistan or Iraq. What you’re seeing is not reporters brought in, you’re seeing selected pictures taken by the military, questioned by the military and what some would call fake interviews because they’re not interviews with a journalist so there’s a real press issue here. Politically it’s smart as can be, but we’ve not seen a Presidential candidate do this in my recollection ever before.”–NBC Correspondent Andrea Mitchell
Is there anything more hilarious than a member of our mainstream media complaining about Barack Obama’s “message management?” Welcome to “Obama-world,” Ms. Mitchell–the one which you and your colleagues have willingly played a major part in creating.
Note that Ms. Mitchell isn’t necessarily angry that Sen. Obama and his campaign are faking it. What gets her panties in a twist is that they have the “gall” to do it without help from a media who started this snowball of unbridled, uncritical adulation rolling down the hill in the first place.
That an arrogant Obama and his handlers feel such image manipulation can now be self-generating? Boo-friggin’-hoo, Andrea. Maybe that “used” feeling will give you an idea of how a lot of other Americans feel about the ongoing facade being presented to us as “unbiased journalism.”
Two surveys (Rasmussen Reports and Fox News) indicate that we’re not being fooled. An overwhelming majority of Americans–Republican, Democrats and Independents–believe the media is trying to help Obama win.
In any other business model, such a blatant rebuke by one’s “customers” would be the impetus for massive re-organization. The mainstream media? Not a chance. Drunk with ideological arrogance, they will continue to indulge their self-destructive behavior, even in the face of massively declining ratings.
It’s the bed you and your colleagues have made for yourselves, Ms. Mitchell.
“Lie” in it.
