One of the problems that confront CEOs, politicians and other people in public life, now that we are in the Internet era, is that it is hard to lie about what one has said. But my favorite CEO, the ever-entertaining Patrick Byrne of Overstock.com, has found a way of overcoming that obstacle.
He has taken the simple step of lying about the often rather strange things that he has said in the past.
A case in point concerns his famous “Sith Lord” rant at a conference call in 2005. He claimed that a mythical figure called the “Sith Lord” was masterminding a conspiracy to manipulate his company’s stock.
