As many of its neighbors concentrated on finding ways to destroy Israel, Israelis, in the first months of 2008, have, among other things, developed designer video glasses and discovered that all dogs speak the same language.
To determine if dogs sense of hearing, smell and night vision were the only ones they have superior to humans, Israels Bio-Sense Technologies, electronically analyzed 350 different dog barks and found dogs of all breeds and sizes bark the same alarm when they sense a threat.
As a result, the firm designed the dog bark-reader that can pick up a dog’s alarm bark, and alert human operators. This is just one several innovative security systems to emerge from Israel, which Forbes calls the go-to country for anti-terrorism technologies.
Also, millions of Skype users worldwide will soon have access to the newly developed KishKish lie-detector a free Internet service based on voice stress analysis that can measure truthfulness in the person on the other end of the line.
Israel’s Magal Security Systems, a computerized security systems firm, has developed DreamBox a state-of-the-art security system that includes intelligent video, audio and sensor management now being used by a major water authority on the U.S. east coast to safeguard the utilitys sites.
Israeli scientists also recently found that the brackish water from underground desert aquifers, hundreds of feet deep, can be used to raise warm-water fish.
Also, an Israeli start-up, Veterix, has developed a way to create healthier, happier and more humane meat farms with a new electronic capsule that sits in the stomach of a cow, sheep, or goat, sending out real-time information to the farmer on the herds health by E-mail or cell phone. The e-capsule also sends out alerts if animals are distressed, injured, or lost.
Lumus-Optical developed lightweight and fashionable designer video eyeglasses, which feature a large transparent screen, floating in front of the viewers face, that projects movies, TV shows, or video games. The specs will be available here next year.
Some Israelis not busy defending the country from those who would wipe it off the map, were busy making headway against deadly diseases like amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrigs disease.
Scientist Stephen Hawkins, the worlds most famous ALS victim, visited Israel recently, to speak with scientists, students, and the Prime Minister, but also reportedly learned from the Israeli Association for ALS that researchers there are making progress in finding a treatment for this fatal disease, which affects 30,000 Americans.
Among the most exciting developments out of the tiny Jewish state in the past few months, is the beating cardiac tissue created in a lab from human embryonic stem cells by researchers at the Rappaport Medical Faculty and the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology’s biomedical Engineering faculty.
The work of Dr. Shulamit Levenberg and Prof. Lior Gepstein, also has led to the creation of tiny blood vessels within the tissue, making possible its implantation in a human heart.
One more reason why the push by some weird, misguided folks in Britain for an academic boycott of Israel is such a brilliant idea.
And thats not all.
BioControl Medical, another Israeli firm, sold its first electrical stimulator to treat urinary incontinence to a U.S. company for $50 million. Now, its working on CardioFit, which uses electrical nerve stimulation to treat congestive heart failure.
Just so you know.
