Senator Clinton has attacked Senator Obama for days over his ”bitter'’ comment, but latest opinion surveys suggested he had escaped serious immediate damage. That’s most likely because the people who support Sen. Obama support him personally, the way a mother defends her kids. You can’t shake ‘em off, no matter what happens. That’s bad news for Sen. Obama down the road, because he is getting a false sense that he can do no wrong. The truth is that outside his relatively small circle of fawning admirers, he won’t be able to buy a vote in the fall. Normal people–people actually thinking about issues–are already put off by his attitude. Without the correcting (and bracing) effect of decline in the face of poor choices, Sen. Obama is headed for a fall of McGovernite proportions.
