“Love, exciting and new
Come aboard, we’re expecting you”–theme from ABC’s “Love Boat”
Such is the fire igniting Barack Obama’s presidential candidacy. Millions of Americans are feeling “exciting and new,” and are more than willing to “come aboard.”
They don’t call them “shipboard romances” for nothing, however. When the world is “far away” certain feelings become magnified. Love? Infatuation is more like it. Too bad ABC never made a series called “Love Boat Alumini” One can only imagine how many “lasting” relationships born on the high seas made it past the walk down the gangplank.
There is a yearning in many Americans to distance themselves from the troubles that beset our planet. The relentless bombardment of our “sky is falling” media contributes to a sense of despair that cannot be alleviated by competency or common sense alone. We need a “messiah”–one with the “audacity of hope.”
Obama is the perfect fit–for now. He is the anti-reality whose pixie dust is “change.” All problems large or small can be solved with a generous sprinkle of such magic. Details? Don’t rain on the parade, mister. Details–along with reality–is for down-heads.
“Love Boat soon will be making another run
The Love Boat promises something for everyone….”
Something for everyone? If you’ve never heard a Democrat make that promise before now, you’ve been living in another universe.
