John McCain is back, and I gotta say whodathunkit and that guy is tough. No money and a smashed up organization are generally not a recipe for victory. Nor, is it clear that McCain can pull off New Hampshire. According to the latest Bloomberg/LA Times poll, McCain still lags. Yet, McCain may do it.
Authenticity may just be the key on the GOP side. Huckabee and McCain
are “real”. Huckabee is running as the aggrieved working class
Evangelical. He has a life story to prove it. McCain is running as the
matured maverick.
It is interesting to see Bob Novak give McCain a plug and remind folks
of how McCain’s candidacy is putting the teeth of Ralph Reed and Grover
Norquist on edge.
Lest we forget, both Reed and Norquist’s were part of Jack Abramoff’s
excellent adventures and received more than a passing mention in the Senate Indian Affairs Committee Report, “GIMME FIVE - INVESTIGATION OF
TRIBAL LOBBYING MATTERS”.
Norquist has now accepted Huckabee’s belated conversion to fiscal
conservatism. In a storm any port will do.
So I ask, will Romney right himself by New Hampshire?
Will McCain give Lazarus a run?
Will the Bhutto assassination jump start Rudy’s faltering campaign?
Will Huckamania meet or beat expectations in Iowa?
Together, we will find out.
