December 26 is Boxing Day in Canada, Great Britain, and several other countries.  Employers traditionally give gifts to their employees, and charitable donations and gifts are made to those less fortunate.

In the United States today, we’ve got a different kind of boxing going on.

Hillary Clinton got a shiny present from Santa: a new poll that shows her lead over Barack Obama in Iowa has widened to 15 points.

If that weren’t bad enough for Obama, he awoke on Boxing Day to several news stories questioning his readiness to be president, including a New York Daily News article quoting Iowans saying they feel uneasy about his lack of experience.

Obama is on the phone with the North Pole, demanding to know why he’s gotten such a huge lump of clay.  After all, he’s been nothing but nice, while his opponent has been quite naughty.

Welcome to “life ain’t fair” writ large: the final week before the Iowa caucus.

What’s going to happen over the next seven days will give you whiplash: competing polls and headlines, dueling candidates, the endless spin cycle, and sick-of-it-up-to-here voters.
