Committee Democrats are demanding Attorney General nominee Michael Mukasey specifically define whether or not he considers water-boarding “torture” (something Congress itself has refused to do on two occasions) before sending him up to the full Senate for a vote. These partisan hacks want to play games with the word “torture?” Here’s what “tortures” plenty of Americans:
–generations of young Americans debased by a leftist-dominated public school system which leaves them largely ignorant–and, because of the focus on self-esteem instead of accomplishment, arrogant about their ignorance.
–colleges that were once citadels of higher learning turned into hotbeds of radical, America-hating, intolerant liberalism.
–a country in which virtually every interaction between Americans is tainted by the specter of litigation, even to the point where the survival our troops in harm’s way is hampered by legal “technicalities.”
–the ongoing deterioration of anything resembling journalistic integrity by a left-leaning mainstream media which has so distorted the truth, it has lost the trust of the public.
–a country built by self-reliance and rugged individualism gradually embracing left-wing, Nanny State socialism.
–a million babies aborted each year under the banner of reproductive freedom and privacy, when the reality is that most occur because of sexual ignorance, irresponsibility–or convenience.
–the rise of an elitist, America-be-damned business class which has no allegiance to anything other than the bottom line.
–the self-debasement of our politicians who have willfully abandoned their duty to the public in pursuit of naked self-interest and ever-increasing amounts of power.
–an American left willing to lose the war in Iraq, reveal methods for combatting terror, and embrace our enemies while denigrating our country on a worldwide stage.
Water-boarding is torture? I’d love to water-board every member of Congress dedicated to the idea that the American public is an endless supply of revenue for their reckless over-spending, because we’re “too stupid” to know what’s best for ourselves. I’d love to make every member of Congress who thinks our borders, language and culture should be held hostage to an army of illegal aliens assume “stress positions.” I’d love to subject every member of Congress who has denigrated our military in time of war to “sleep deprivation.” And I dream of forcing every politician in both parties to listen to hours of loud, heavy metal music–for no other reason than to drown out their sound of their own voices offering the public a litany of broken promises, non-answers, illogic and outright lies.
Seriously, no one is suggesting we adopt al Qaeda-like standards of interrogation. But neither should we submit to the lunacy of the PC crowd who believes sending Johnny Jihad to bed without his religiously-correct supper constitutes torture.
Thoughtful Americans understand the tremendous difficulty of maintaining our nation’s integrity against an enemy which has none. Every war requires some level of trust in our fellow Americans responsible for keeping us safe–irrespective of political affiliation or ideology. Knowing about something in time to stop it is far better than telling the relatives of thousands of dead Americans we gave some stateless, mass murdering thug his Constitutional rights. That’s not integrity. That’s insanity.
Democrats are entitled to play all political games they want with Michael Mukasey’s nomination. But they shouldn’t wonder why most Americans don’t trust them with national security. Protecting America isn’t a game.
