Another Democrat back from Iraq (Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich.), another Democrat forced to admit the “surge” is working. So what’s the obvious fallback position for the cut-and-run party come September’s progress report from Gen. Petraeus?
“The Maliki government is non-functional,” said Levin, talking with reporters–meaning we should still withdraw our troops from Iraq. “There is consensus: there is no military solution to the conflict,” he added.
Thus the Democratic worms squirm. Because the war might no longer be “lost,” some other reason must be “spun up” to spare these surrenderists from national embarrassment. Non-functional government is just the ticket for a Democrat party which may be on the verge of realizing their worst political nightmare: an American military success story. One they have tried to undermine at every turn.
Memo to Sen. Levin: considering the “functionality” of our own Congress–which recently garnered a “lowest in Gallup poll history” approval rating of 14%–any Senator who would chastise the Iraqi government’s ineptitude has cojones the size of grapefruits.
