The abject degeneracy of political correctness has reached a high water mark in Newark, New Jersey. Question: what can decent Americans do about it?
In that city, four college-bound students were forced to kneel against a schoolyard wall where they were shot point-blank in the head. Three were killed outright. The fourth survived. One of the alleged perps? An illegal alien. But not just any illegal alien. One who had been arrested two previous times, once for assaulting bar patrons ten months ago, and recently for repeatedly raping a five-year-old relative and threatening the lives of her and her family.
Incredibly, this dirtbag made bail twice: $50,000 for the first incident and a whopping $200,000 for the second. Even more incredibly, it was reported by Fox News that Newark officials knew he was an illegal, and did absolutely nothing about it. Why?
Because Newark–like many other cities where decent Americans are held hostage to political correctnes–is a sanctuary city. A sanctuary city is one in which the local political hacks have made it policy to defy federal immigration law by preventing police and other authorities from inquiring about a suspect’s immigration status–even if that suspect has committed a felony.
Americans opposed to sanctuary cities have proposed remedies, the principle of which is cutting off federal aid to the offending municipalities. Another is voting the offending public officials out of office. Both are admirable–both are woefully short of the mark.
It is time to take a page out of the playbook of the PC crowd and its odious enabler, the ACLU. This column is an open call to the citizens of sanctuary cities in general, and to local law firms in particular, who are fed up with being the victims of politically correct–and corrupt–government. File class-action lawsuits against individuals and organizations who have defied federal immigration law. Hit these bums in their personal pocketbook, as well as their government cookie jar, for their failure to provide the Constitutionally mandated guarantee: “to provide for the common defence” (sic) of American citizens.
There may be failure at first. But look at what perseverance and determination did to Big Tobacco. Maybe if a “few billion” is extracted from the coffers of sanctuary cities and the pockets of their enablers, the PC crowd will get the message. Those who equate illegal and legal immigration in order to paint decent Americans as racist or xenophobic have held sway for far too long–and they’ve often got there by using the same kind of litigious strategy I’m suggesting be used to fight them.
They’ve made our lives miserable–and in many cases, deadly–without consequence. It’s time for consequences. Where is it written that Americans have to settle for a PC version of America?
Nowhere. Citizens, attorneys, the ball’s in your court. Go get ‘em.
