The shrieks of agony emanating from conservative circles about the terrible punishment being inflicted upon Scooter Libby strike me as misplaced.
How can conservatives, who call for tough law and order, complain when a by the books judge like Reggie Walton comes down hard on a convicted white-collar criminal such as Scooter Libby?
Sure, Libby, who got a lot of friends to write in letters attesting to his fine character, may have helped fix the septic-tank of his neighbor, and done lots of other good things.
But the fact remains that the jury handed down a guilty verdict. Drug dealers get sent to prison when they’re appealing a sentence.
Why should Libby be an exception?
