There’s an article in today’s San Francisco Chronicle predicting that the sun and earth and all the other planets will be hurled into deep space until we collide with a neighboring galaxy. Not soon - but soon enough to make me wonder why people think this is important.
It also leads me to wonder what else people believe is important, so, I made a list of what I believe some well known Americans consider most important. The object: to achieve some clarity through comparison of what I confess are entirely my perceptions.
For Dennis Prager the most important issue is Goodness.
For Rush Limbaugh it’s articulating his political opponent’s hypocrisy.
For Randi Rhodes it’s spewing vile about Conservatives to anyone who will listen.
For Michael Moore it’s political hatred.
For Jimmy Carter — I don’t know, but he proves that being President doesn’t make you any wiser or better than anyone else.
For John Kerry it’s political power.
George Soros is preoccupied with anti-capitalism.
For Nancy Pelosi it’s her party above all else.
For John Edwards, it’s redistributing American wealth from those who have it to those who want it.
For Al Gore it’s the temperature.
Barak Obama – no idea what he cares about.
For Tom Cruise it’s Scientology.
For Oprah Winphrey it’s earning respect.
For Howard Stern it’s exploiting the forbidden.
For Paris Hilton it’s being a celebrity.
For President Bush it’s doing right as God gives him ability to understand.
