Have you ever read through the Craig’s List Missed Connections for your city? The Missed Connections areas of Craig’s List allows one to post in search another who was seen from a distance, or briefly encountered.
For example a post from today’s Missed Connections reads, “I saw you this morning when I got on King Street. You: wearing black top and glasses. Me: Guy who’s sittin across and admiring your beauty. Just want to say how pretty you are and hope to see you again.” If you have never perused your Missed Connections highly recommend doing it - - you will emerge hours later bleary eyed feeling much better about your social life and the fact that it’s never “come to that”.Well, it’s all fun and games until the day comes when you find a post that seems to be about you, or a friend of yours, or a friend of a friend. Before today I had only known one person to be sought after on Missed Connections, and we were pretty sure the poster was his crazy ex-girlfriend, so nothing ever came of it. Then this morning, a friend of a friend discovered that she was the object of someone’s affections. The Missed Connections post reads, “I think your name was [name omitted to protect the innocent]? We were dancing the fuck out of each other. I was swinging you around it was pretty money. whelp if you see this id love to meet up.”
Wow. WOW!! Where do we start? As my friend pointed out not only did the poster spell the name of the bar they were at wrong, but he also managed to use the phrases “dance the f–k out of each other”, “pretty money” and “whelp” in a two sentence post. The use of any ONE of those would have been enough for a DQ in my book, and as it turns out was enough for [name omitted] as well.
What I always wonder, and have oft discussed, is has anyone every REALLY met someone fantastic on Missed Connections? Or is it just for weirdos with a penchant for profanity and crazy exes? Apparently Craig’s List wants to know too - they are soliciting for “Missed Connections success stories” on the board. Definitely something I’ll be keeping MY eye on.
