Anybody else find it a trifle odd to see former Secretary of State James Baker urging President Bush to continue building on the recommendations of the Iraq Study group?
In fact, Bush has flouted Baker and company’s suggestions.
Whether there is anything to be salvaged out of Iraq is another matter. But Baker’s preposterous obfuscations provide another clue as to why the mess developed in the first place: the Republican old guard never really had the courage of its convictions.
And it still doesn’t.
