Exclusivity sells! Taking a page out of the Boston Red Sox’ play book, Barack Obama is offering a limited edition St. Patrick’s Day campaign t-shirt, for the Irish Catholic in all of us. The Boston Red Sox are one of a handful of standout MLB teams that don special green jerseys for St. Patrick’s Day games.
From my years in Boston it was my understanding that the green hats from these games were highly prized items, and could only be purchased day of game for many years. However, based on the number of “yooz guys” I see with them on these days I’d wager a guess that that is no longer the case. In any event, from a marketing perspective, the limited edition shirt is a great idea, if it’s not a run away hit it will at least generate some free press from suckers like me.
(Arch-conservative Curt Schilling will probably personally hunt me down for loosely associating him with Barack - but that’s too bad for him - Curt I love ya for the ‘04 series, but you gotta change your tune…)
