Barack’s Getting Closer
By Jacob Heilbrunn (bio)
In a speech today at the Chicago Council for Global Relations, Barack Obama just took another step toward declaring his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination.
He’s calling for a pullout in 2007–his target, however, isn’t only John McCain, but also Hillary Clinton. Word is that the prospect of an Obama campaign fills Hillary’s advisor with terror.
And it should.
The Iraq war is going to be even more unpopular in six months than it is now, putting McCain and Hillary, who, unlike Obama, voted for the war, in a very tough spot.
I think it’s safe to predict that Obama’s going to have both the Democratic left and center eating out of his hand by the time primary season rolls around.
