This weekend I am inviting a few friends to join me uptown at the annual Charie Parker Festival. As usual, on Saturday it’s uptown (I can walk there) at Marcus Garvey Park, which is a beautiful little park (well worth checking out if you haven’t seen it) and they have a really impressive line-up of bands, mostly saxophonists (the way I like ‘em) :
Marcus Garvey Park - Saturday, August 26, 2006:
Chico Hamilton
George Coleman
Sonny Fortune Quartet
Greg Osby
3 PM - 5th Ave & 121st Street
I may or may not go to the second day (Sunday), which is way downtown in the East Village:
Tompkins Square Park - Sunday, August 27, 2006:
Chico Hamilton
JoAnne Brackeen Quartet
Ray Mantilla
David Sanchez
Then of course, there’s the great SONNY ROLLINS at Damrosch Park on Sunday night – am sure everybody will be coming to that. Look for me at any of the above events. I will be the bald guy frantically taking notes, as usual!
